Beyond awards glitz, a support network for entrepreneurs

It may have won the Emerging Enterprise Award back in 2014, but Sunseap Leasing is still harvesting the benefits of being part of the award's network.

For instance, at an alumni gathering of past winners and finalists two years ago, Sunseap met a company that is now one of its solutions providers, said Frank Phuan, Sunseap's co-founder and director.

He was one of about 70 Emerging Enterprise entrepreneurs at the most recent alumni gathering held last week at Anti:dote, at Fairmont Singapore.

"This is just an example of how the Emerging Enterprise Award is a great platform for like-minded entrepreneurs to meet, share experiences and support each other," said Mr Phuan.

Chia Yoong Hui, founder, chairman and CEO of Ascenz, which won the 2012 Emerging Enterprise Award, said: "The exposure from the Emerging Enterprise Award helped us in terms of credibility and gave others the confidence to invest in us."

Ascenz first scored seed funding six months after its Emerging Enterprise win, and held a successful series A fund-raising the year after.

This year marked the 10th edition of the Emerging Enterprise Award, jointly organised by The Business Times and OCBC Bank. Winners were announced at a gala dinner in September.
